Trucks have good payload but poor power/weight ratio. Range Rover has high power/weight but poor payload. Axle articulation equals excellent off-road performance. Front/rear diff lock enable recovery with just one wheel pushing. Portal axles bring superb ground clearance but high unsprung weight. Pickups have all the payload over the back wheels. Forward contr0ls, (Bedford RL, 101, Pinzgauer), have the weight central. Small 4x4s (Jeep Renegade Trailhawk, Suzuki Jimny) excellent for short range expeditions. Light trailers on fat tyres OK.
